I started “helping” Mom in the kitchen at age 6, standing on a kitchen chair to reach the counter. Doubt I was much real help… At 8, I was given a cookbook for Christmas. I was so very proud to be grown up enough to cook on my own! Mom, of course, was in charge of turning on the stove. By 13, I was able to make a complete meal with just a little help from Mom.
Those cooking skills paid off in college; other students would buy the food, and I would cook. A free meal for me, and a good meal for them. As a young adult, I collected recipes and experimented in the kitchen for my own pleasure. Creating my own recipes was a natural next step.
Later, family health issues including diabetes and heart disease led me to modify or replace old favorites with healthier alternatives. I also made a conscious effort to eliminate hidden salt, sugar, and chemicals by using fresh, local foods and making my own sauces, marinades, and salad dressings.
I hope you will use my recipes to create some wonderful memories as well as enjoy really good meals with family and friends.
